ANNUAL REPORT 2008-09

Chairman’s Report

Secretary’s Report

A somewhat disappointing season for the second team this year round, as we ended up trophy less. There were some great performances, but it was the individual errors and missed chances that eventually proved to be our downfall.

The first half of the season had its ups and downs, beating league rivals old Meadonians 6-0 at home, and beating title contenders Chertsey 4-3 away, were two of many great results. Mind you, going out in two cup competitions in back to back weeks was a very humbling experience.

The second half of the season was much the same, going out of yet another cup competition, but still performing well, and winning league games, such as the 8-1 demolition of Uffingtonians.

As a team, our downfall came in a double header against Vaughanians, not losing either game but not winning either. This made us lose our way somewhat, and other league defeats followed, as we constantly looked past opponents for what we thought to be a title showdown with Chertsey.

Finishing second is still something to be proud of, but if you know anyone in our team, we are greedy and thirsty for success. So this season we were good but not good enough.

As a team I think we will learn a lot from this season and come back stronger next year.

Jason Frederick

2nd Team manager

After a quality pre season it actually looked like we had a team with serious potential - things were looking good. We were scoring lots of goals and playing some really good stuff! The league started and it was all downhill for the first 7 games where every basic mistake we made at the back cost us a goal and the game, simple.

It was like we were competing with spurs to see who could get the first win. It wasn't much better in the cups either as we lost in round 1 of both. Not having the same or no keeper every week didn’t help either, something had to change and it did - I got injured! With a torn calf I was out for 6 games and some might say it was because of my great managerial qualities while I was on the sidelines that paid off others might say it was just because I was on the sidelines. However, first game injured - we won.

Over the xmas period we went through a 6 game unbeaten run winning 4 and drawing 2; confidence was on the up and with a couple of signings in the transfer window, and me slotting in at full back, our defence actually started to look quite strong, it was literally a season of two halves but we finished well above the bottom two on points and will go again next year with the foundation of another team with potential............ We'll see.

Highlight of the season has got to be winning 4-0 away against shene, turning up late, starting the game with only 10 men and hammering them! Good times! Low point was probably losing to isleworthians gift wrapping the 3 points and handing it to them on an 18 carat gold plate while I wasn't there.

Anyway thanks to everyone who's played for me and helped me out when I’ve been struggling with injuries etc. And well done to Wayne for not getting sent off, d-low for being our top scorer, Shaun for his decent 'ratio' in his first full season back from injury and all else for sticking with it! I'd also like to wish Gareth the best of luck with his recovery from a nasty snapped Achilles. See ya next season Cheers. T

Tony Timthong

3rd Team Manager

Our season started extremely well - we were sitting pretty at the top of the league and still in both cup competitions at Christmas. We had a strong squad of talented players, so spirits were rightly high, and expectations were realistically high too. But our promising start was soon to fizzle out. Injuries to Key players, coupled with some extremely unreliable players, broke up our talented squad, and we were never again to regain the balance and stability that was key to success.

A lengthy Christmas break due to increment weather, and exits from both cups in the space of a month, were surrounded by weak results in the league. And although we went on another strong unbeaten run (6 straight wins and a draw), a really tough string of games at the end of the season saw us fall just short. We went from first to fourth in as many weeks - and it did not help that Holland Park were withdrawn from the league, costing us six points and nine goals in the process (this withdrawal also helped our rivals - none of whom had taken six points from them!) If Holland Park had not have been withdrawn, we would have finished second - and just one point from glory, and with games to play at the time, there would have been extra impetus and motivation to do well in the few remaining games. Heartbreaking stuff for all concerned.

Regardless of this disappointment, I would still like to heap praise on the core of our squad - playing week in, week out - it was this core that got us so near - it was just a real shame that we could not go all the way, because these lads all deserved medals - Lee Worley, George Worley, Clint Anglo, Dave Mitchell, Jeremy Salmon, Leon Daisy, Pat Munnelly, Gary Munnelly and Danny Gallagher.

And some special praise for Danny Gallagher - thirty five goals in one season - and some real crackers too, including a forty yard header! Impressive stuff! So well done pal - and much appreciated too!

I would also like to single out Dave Mitchell and Clint Anglo for some special praise too; their commitment, leadership and assistance throughout the season was invaluable. Thanks lads.

David McGovern

4th Team Manager

The season started off well with us winning the first few games - confidence however set in, but then followed a couple of defeats. The realisation that we could lose took over, and we went in strong to enable us to finish second in the league by two points.

I would like to thank Danny Silman for his help throughout the season by being my right hand man.

Leon Johnson

5th Team manager

The season started well with a 5-1 victory over the team that would finish second in the league. We were unlucky to be knocked out of the cup to West Wickham who got to the final, having lead three times before Webby was beaten (and continuing his streak from last season where he was lobbed in every game ) in extra time. As we approached Christmas the team started to struggle as we had to deal with injuries, players only being able to play every other week and Butcher failing to score from two yards on a regular basis.

The last seven games saw a big turnaround, as players finally got tired of losing and we put a run together finishing the season in 6th. Overall I can’t be disappointed as we only finished a few points off third having scored plenty of goals in the process. If we can keep our team together and players out of the hands of the 4th team, then I have high hopes for our performances next season.

Special thanks go to Smithy for his inspiring team talks and help in running the team, Sam and Rhys our youngest players, who following their introduction reminded some of our older players of the effort required to win matches and to Roy, Jeff, Jim, Les and Butcher who formed the backbone of the team.

Finally performance of the season has to go to Neville Blake who played one match and scored seven goals, although anyone watching the match would have surely asked how much he paid the keeper to fall over every time he got within 20 yards of the goal!!!
